In a recent survey conducted among 486 Canadian physicians, sourced from the HealthViews Market Research Panel*, 53% indicated that they have not yet adopted an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.

Among non-users the majority are considering adopting or are in the process of acquiring an EMR, see below for further details.

• 22% in the process of acquiring or implementing one
• 42% currently considering adopting one
• 36% do not have any plans at this time to adopt an ERM system

Interestingly, when compared to the rest of Canada, Quebec physicians display the greatest resistance to adopting EMR, at 16% vs. 28% respectively.

For those physicians that have installed and operate an EMR, nearly half (42%) of them report that it is not yet being fully utilized, indicating a potential need for further training.

HealthViews announced today that it has provided in-kind provisioning of healthcare professional sample for a unique study on a poorly diagnosed area in children’s health called Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD).

DCD is characterized by the impairment of gross and/or fine motor coordination in children with average or above average intelligence. It’s distinguished from mere ‘clumsiness’ by its severity; the performance of daily activities for children diagnosed with DCD is a challenge.

In addition to measuring awareness and knowledge of DCD among key stakeholder groups, the study assessed information gaps as well as diagnostic processes. A multidisciplinary team comprised of educators, parents, healthcare professionals and researchers are pursuing this work with a passion to facilitate change within the agencies and systems which are best positioned to provide support to these children.
